Sophie's Salon

Sophie's Salon was created as a refuge for cats that tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficency virus). Despite their status regarding the FIV virus, with proper care, they will live a long life. The FIV virus is similar in nature to human AIDS, but in not transmittable to humans. The virus is also not easily transmitted to other cats. Most cats are infected when mating or as the result of a bite incurred when fighting. The virus itself is not spread through casual contact and is not air borne. The virus can not live outside of a host (cat) for more than a minute or two.

Although the virus these cats carry is not readily transmittable to other cats, these cats are housed in a separate area from all our other residents. Although they are healthy and available for adoption, unfortunately, because of thier FIV status, many of these cats will not find a home.
